About

A dart scorer built by a dart player. Coming soon to Android and iOS.

The App

Bull & Moose is a dart scoring app for Android. You tap the board where your darts land, and it handles the rest — subtracting scores, tracking turns, catching busts, and showing you checkout suggestions when you’re within finishing range.

It supports 301, 501, 701, and 1001 starting scores. Games can be played as a single leg or as part of a match series — best of three, five, or seven, or first to a set number of legs. Rules are configurable: double in, double out, master out, or straight start and finish, depending on how you play at home.

Any number of player profiles can be saved — whoever you play with regularly. The app tracks career stats across sessions — three-dart average, best checkouts, games played, and win rates — all stored locally on your device, no account required. The free tier supports up to two players per game with 301 and 501; the Pro upgrade extends this to four players and the full range of game modes.

The Story

Growing up, Sunday afternoons meant one thing — darts at my grandparents’ house. My grandad had a board in the garage that had been there longer than I had, and my nan could hit a double top more reliably than most people I’ve met since. For them, keeping score was second nature. Decades of playing meant the maths just happened automatically, the way experienced players talk about muscle memory.

For me it was a different story. I was forever losing track of the score, second-guessing whether we’d gone bust, and holding everyone up while I worked out what we needed to finish. At one point we had a phone calculator, a scrap of paper with running totals, and a laminated checkout card all on the go at once. My grandad found this funnier than he probably should have.

I couldn’t find an app that did it simply. Most were either too complicated, too ugly, or kept getting in the way of actually playing. So I built one — something that handles the maths quietly in the background and stays out of the way the rest of the time.

Bull & Moose started as a solution to a very specific problem in one garage on one Sunday afternoon. It turned into something I’m genuinely proud of, and something I think my grandad would approve of. Even if he’d never actually need it.

The Mascot

Bull & Moose is named after a black Labrador called Moose. He is responsible for the checkout suggestion engine. When your score drops into finishing range, Moose tells you how to get out — T20, T20, D20, that sort of thing. He has never missed a checkout in his life, though his throwing action does leave something to be desired. He is very good at his job and takes it extremely seriously.

The Pro Upgrade

The free version of Bull & Moose is genuinely usable. Two players, 301 and 501, full scoring, bust detection, and checkout suggestions. There is no timer, no feature lock, and it is not crippled. If that covers your game, it is all you need.

The Pro upgrade is £4.99, paid once. No subscription, no annual renewal. It unlocks everything else and removes ads. If you reinstall the app, your purchase is restored automatically through Google Play.
